SQUAMISH—Organizers of Squamish's other
mountain bike race, The GearJammer, predict
this year's race, which will be held on July 26,
will eclipse previous races.

“Given the groundwork done by the
Gearheads, our organizing committee, and the
success of the Test of Metal this year, we
anticipate this year's race to be bigger and better
than any other GearJammer,” said race director
Curtis Roberts.

Now in its 6th year, the GearJammer,
presented by G. Stewart Kerr Ltd., offers a
gruelling 47 km. challenge for mountain bikers.
Roberts feels that the race has emerged
from the shadow of the Test of Metal to be
recognized as one of the premier cross country
mountain bike races in BC.

“Many people think that because it's
shorter, it's easier than the Test,” said Roberts,
“but the fact is, your time in this race might be
only 10% faster than the Test of Metal. The first
place finisher will have a time only 10 minutes
less than the Test.”

Squamish locals often look at the Test of
Metal as a training ride for the GearJammer.
“The GearJammer is for connoisseurs,”
said one prominent Squamish mountain biker.
“The Test of Metal may offer all the excitement of
the crowds, but if you want race the best trails in
Squamish, you want to race the GearJammer.”
The race takes riders through some of the
most challenging and exciting single-track in
Squamish including “Middle Power Smart”,
“ReCycle”, “Pseudo-Tsuga”, and “The Plunge.”

The GearJammer is also the proud
presenter of the Squamish Cup, sponsored by
Pearson Financial, which is given to the first
male and female Squamish-based rider to cross
the finish line.

Both the GearJammer and the Test of
Metal are organized under the umbrella of
GRMBA (The Grass Roots Mountain Bike
Association of BC) and share many of the same
organizers and volunteers.

Any profit realized from the race is
returned to the community. To date several
thousand dollars have been donated by the
GearJammer to the Squamish Off Road Cycling
Association (SORCA) and the Squamish
Emergency Program (SEP).

Information about registration or
volunteering for the GearJammer can be found at
www.gearjammer.ca.
