TEST OF METAL Course Protection Initiative |
| Mar 25 2009 |
We invite you to join the Test of Metal Course Protection Initiative (TMCPI). Our aim is to preserve the course of the Test of Metal. In conjunction with Tourism Squamish, we are asking you to write a letter or email expressing your support for the Test of Metal Sports Park. Your commitment will add weight behind the idea as we approach different levels of government and various land owners.
As the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada, Squamish boasts numerous incredible trails, with the TOM course being the crown jewel. The 67 km course encompasses the very best that Squamish has to offer in recreation for mountain bike riders, from the average cyclist up to and including the most elite of athletes. The trails are also enjoyed by others and form parts of many other races, including the Gear Jammer, the Stormy, and many Toonie and Loonie races, making it accessible to hikers, runners and certain parts to dirt bikers.
To leave a legacy to be enjoyed by our children, and for generations to come, we are starting the process of protecting the lands to save it from the threat of development, logging and quarrying. Can you imagine Squamish without the Test of Metal? We would like to be sure that threats such as those to The Plunge and Dead End Loop can be avoided. For this we will need community support.
Please help us to create the Test of Metal Sports Park by providing a letter or email of support explaining why the TOM is important to you, to the community and to British Columbia. Your letter means a great deal, especially when combined with the hundreds of businesses, individuals and organizations that benefit and profit from the Test of Metal each year. It would be helpful if you could include your personal experience. If you are able to comment on the economic, social and health aspects in the letter that would be useful. We are aiming to receive all letters by January 31, 2009. If you can achieve this date it will help us in presenting to council in February. If you are unable to meet this date, your letter will still be very valuable.
