Test of Metal supports youth racers

May 11 2009

SQUAMISH—Cliff Miller, Test of Metal race
director, announced the creation of the TOM
Youth National Dream Fund to support young
Squamish mountain bikers participating in the
Canadian National Championships.

The perpetual fund will provide $250 to one
young male and one female rider from Squamish
who is participating the Canadian National
Championships.

“We've had a number of young people from this
community participate in mountain biking at a
very high level and we want to support them if we
can,” Miller said.

This year's recipients of the grants were Mo
Lawrence and Lauren Rosser.
Lawrence, who came third in the Male U19
category of the Test of Metal with a time of 3:05,
finished in 6th place at the Nationals.
Rosser, a second place finisher in the Test of Metal
U19 women with a time of 4:13, was 9th in her
national race.

“I think that we should be very proud of the
accomplishments of these young athletes and
recognize the sacrifices that their families make,”
said Miller.
