

Two races added to the Squamish mountain bike season |

SQUAMISH - Test of Metal group of events is pleased to announce the addition of two new races - a downhill and a cross-country event - to the Squamish mountain bike race calendar.
TOM Inc. will host a downhill race in conjunction with the GearJammer on July 24th and 25th ,MMX.
“This downhill race will be a major feather in Squamish's mountain bike cap. It is one more step in cementing Squamish's reputation as the mountain bike race capital of Canada,” said race organizer Dave Gillie.
The race is possible because the recent $50,000 of provincial government money that SORCA was able to secure to build the Half-Nelson, an “A-Line-style” downhill trail.
Adding to the excitement for next year is the creation of “Just Another Mountain Bike Race” on August 21st .
Local pro-elite racer Dwayne Kress stepped forward to organize the cross-country event.
“I envision this race as one between the Test and Gearjammer in difficulty and be about 40 k.m. in length. It will have a bit of something for every racer,” Kress said.
With ore crusher being run on May 15th, and Test of Metal on June 19th, Squamish will offer 4 full months of mountain bike racing to participants.
“In the North American mountain biking community, Squamish's reputation is golden,” said TOM president Cliff Miller. “Our organizers, our vollies, and our trail networks make us the envy of every mountain bike community in North America.”
It is estimated that with these 5 events there will be in excess of 2000 participants taking part over the 4 months.
Tom Inc is a not-for-profit entity that has, since its inception in 1996, returned in excess of $125000 back to the local Squamish community.
