Test of Metal, Inc. in partnership with Tourism Squamish announced last week the launch of an exciting contest with a grand prize of a lifetime entry into the Test of Metal.
Test of Metal president, Cliff Miller, said “A committee of volunteers has been promoting the idea of protecting the course. After a presentation to Tourism Squamish, the folks there jumped on board with this great contest idea.”
Members of the Test of Metal Course Protection initiative (TOMCP) have been in discussion with landowners and the different levels of government for several months and was looking for a way to bring the initiative to public attention when the idea of having a contest came up.
“The competition is a natural,” said Richard MacKellar, coordinator for TOMCP. “We always hear how much people love the race, and this is a forum for them to express that publicly. This is also the only way left to gain entry to the Test this year. That they might win a lifetime entry is a bonus.”
The contest offers participants an opportunity to say in writing, photography or video why the Test of Metal course is important to them or to Squamish.
The overall winner will receive a free Test of Metal Weekend Package including accommodation, and a lifetime entry to the Test of Metal.
Monthly prizes of entry into the 2009 Test of Metal mountain bike race are also being offered to two winners at the end of March, April and May, with one winner being chosen by popular vote and one by the TOMSP Committee.
As well, four “Best Of The Rest” Winners will receive entry into the 2009 Test of Metal. These winners will be chosen by the TOMSP Committee out of all the entries collected over the three months of competition.
Full details of the contest can be found at www.protectthetest.com . Winners will be announced on the Protect the Test webpage, and on the Test of Metal Sports Park Facebook page
The Test of Metal Inc. is a not-for-profit society run by volunteers, and any proceeds from the race are returned to the community through charitable donations. Since its inception, the Test of Metal has donated more than $100,000 to community organizations and events.
