Rider Profile

Name: Brian Wood

Where are you from?
Oak Harbor, WA

Why are you doing the test?
I need at least one significant cycling challenge each year.

Have you done the test before?
Nope

What are you looking forward to the most?
The climbs. Sure you suffer, but climbing just has the 'je ne sais quoi' element to it that makes it so irresistible.

What are you dreading the most?
Wiping out. At 41, wounds are no longer badges of honor. They get in the way of riding and, after 35, they just don't seem to completely go away anymore.

What kind of frame do you ride on?
Giant XtC Two2One--a fully rigid, rim brake singlespeed.

Do you have an inspiring rider?
The late Sheldon Brown. His website (still accessible) is a monument to cycling and his dedication to the sport benefitted many.

How are you preparing for the Test?
I ride 4 days a week (about 80 miles) in wind, rain, snow or darkness, either on a singlespeed road bike or the singlespeed MTB.

How will you celebrate afterwards?
Lots of food.
