Run Squamish has partnered with the Test of Metal to present the inaugural Squamish Mountain Family Competition Race back-to-back weekends and test yourself against some of the best athletes in British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest to see who will be crowned the Squamish Mountain Champions of 2015.
In order to participate in the event, you will need to compete in both the Test of Metal mountain bike race on June 20 and the Sea to Sky Scramble trail run on June 27. For men and women, overall placing will be determined by the combined placing at Test of Metal and at the Sea to Sky Scramble. For boys and girls, there will be random draw for all boys and girls who enter both the Mini Metal and the Mini Scramble.
The final part of the Test of Metal course goes through Smoke Bluff Park, a District of Squamish municipal park. The trail through the park is a multi-use trail, shared by pedestrians and cyclists. As the park is well-used, there are often young children out walking with families on these trails. Pre-riding the Test of Metal course at this time is year is common, but please slow down and save your speed through this part of the course for race day! Please be respectful and let’s keep everyone safe and allow everyone to enjoy the privilege of using this park trail.
The Test of Metal would not happen were it not for dedicated volunteers. We require volunteers all day for the Test of Metal – work as much or little as you want. Your reward – that great feeling that you did something worthwhile for the community, a Test of Metal T-shirt, great prizes and great food.
We are looking for volunteers for a wide variety of positions, but in particular, people with first aid certification.
So if you’re an able-bodied guy or gal and are at least 19 years of age, please consider being a Test of Metal volunteer this year.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Test of Metal, we are bringing back chariot racing. The chariot race, along with other events, will take place at the Brennan Park Recreation parking lot on Friday, June 19, 6:00-9:00pm as part of the new Pre-Test Party.
The party takes place during race registration, all in one location, so everyone can get involved. There will be crazy bike races, bike limbo, and the famous chariot races. Take part or cheer on your family and friends. There will be food vendors, face painting, and more. The Bluesberry Jam band will fill the air with their great tunes and get you dancing. Join us at the Pre-Test – a free, fun family event.
Registration is still open for the Test of Metal Relay Race for two-person teams. This event will be one-time only as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations.
The first half of the Test of Metal is known more for its rolling terrain while the second half features big climbs and downhills.
